Readers here
« on: March 11, 2015, 08:00:47 am »
Page view counts here aren't always giving the true picture. You can open a thread to read its posts but that page view won't be counted.

It's no big deal really but it does mean that I have no idea how many people are reading what threads.  I would like to know because a thread that has many views might be a topic that deserves more investigating, more information.

This board could use more readers, probably.

I don't care if people choose not to post and just want to read but it's discouraging to keep posting information that I think might be useful when nobody seems to be getting that information here.

I'm always looking for ways of attracting more readers. Promoting this board on other MS message boards is definitely not something I'd do or have ever done. I do put the URL for this board in my Profile whenever possible, though.

One way to advertise or promote a message board is to spend money but I draw the line there. I'm determined to keep this place free.

Many people with MS are so financially strapped that even a computer is a great luxury for them. They can't be asked to part with more dollars just to keep a message board going.

If anyone has any suggestions for ways to attract more readers, I would appreciate knowing about them.   Thank you!

I should add that I have a policy of deleting any registration that is obviously coming from a bot.

However, sometimes a registration looks real. In that case I wait to see if the person posts something or sends me a message or adds information to the Profile. If there is no such activity, I send a private message asking the person to let me know how he/she happened to find this place and make it clear that if there is no reply in a week, I will delete that person's registration.

This may sound harsh but it is the only way I can think of to preserve this board for those with a legitimate interest in being here.

Maybe a person just wanted to register and read occasionally here. That is fine. But at least reply to my message so that I will believe that you are real and not just one of those cloud-critters or whatever they are.
