I have often wondered about the vague way in which MS has been more or less classified into four subdivisions: relapsing-remitting, primary progressive, secondary progressive, and then something that might be called progressive relapsing MS if it isn't called something else. The secondary progressive category seems especially vague, almost as if the experts don't really know what it is.






This abstract (from Multiple Sclerosis Journal--July 1, 2021) indicates that indeed they don't really know--though they're trying to find a way to figure it out--"Accurate classification of secondary progression in multiple sclerosis using a decision tree":

One of the authors listed in this article, Helen Tremlett, is well known as an investigator in the field of MS research.
