You can't catch the coronavirus from your pet cat or dog. And though you can transmit it to your pet cat or dog, they won't become significantly ill. 


The final sentence in the Comment section is noteworthy:


"Finally, cats might be a useful animal model for studying vaccines and treatments for COVID-19."


I have an impression that cats aren't going to be lining up for the privilege of becoming "useful animal models"....
