Injuries associated with standing electric scooter use
« on: February 04, 2019, 08:36:37 pm »
Standing electric scooters are enjoying great popularity in many US cities but they have their dangers, as this article in JAMA (January 25, 2019)--"Injuries Associated with Standing Electric Scooter Use"--emphasizes:

Interesting that at least one of the study participants was 89 years old....Summary of this in NEJM Journal Watch, January 28, 2019--"Standing Electric Scooters a Common Cause of Head Injuries and Fractures":

Many with MS would be unable to ride an electric scooter but as we navigate outside in our own way--walking with or without a cane or walker or crutches or in a wheelchair--we are often unstable enough to need to use extra caution now that these scooters are becoming so common. If you were in danger of being hit by someone on a skateboard in the past, you might be in much greater danger of colliding with someone on a scooter now.
