No one wants to think about nursing homes. No one wants to be in one, I'm fairly sure. But they still exist--worse luck--and some people land there. I would like to see a world where there are no nursing homes and where excellent at-home care (or longer-term hospital care if needed) is provided instead, but until that day comes, nursing homes are part of the scene. ProPublica offers this updated tool for comparing nursing homes in a state based on deficiencies cited by regulators and penalties imposed over a period of 3 years.
