US police overdo violence

Years ago I watched "Cops" on TV for a while--until I became upset by some of the real-life scenes portraying the training cops were routinely receiving. Sometimes they looked so military that they were almost goose-stepping. And then there were scenes where they beat suspects far more brutally than seemed warranted. 


It's been widely known that some on the police force use their power to show their race prejudice and pick up people of color for ridiculously petty "offenses" like driving with one tail-light out.


It adds up to a pattern of a macho culture that glorifies cruelty.


An instance of this happened recently when some officers pushed a 75-year-old man who was among the demonstrators for justice for George Floyd. They knocked him over, inflicting a serious head wound--and if you watch the video, they seemed very inclined to move on as if nothing had happened, leaving the man lying helpless on the ground:
