Years ago there was a theory that MS might be caused by having measles, which then lay dormant for years and reappeared in the form of MS later in life. Like many theories, this one hasn't been mentioned in a long time. But measles always has been a fairly serious disease. Recent outbreaks of it in some regions of the US have been alarming.  The CDC has a Q&A about measles and the vaccine:
