Vimpat/Lacosimide

Hi Agate,
I was prescribed generic Vimpat for painful muscle spasms about six months ago. I had a new neurologist and I had recently weaned myself off Baclofen. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well it stopped the spasms in my back and legs. I found an article showing that it is specifically indicated as a treatment though it is used for Epilepsy normally. I was looking here and at a MS forum on Facebook but didn't see it mentioned and nobody else I know is on it. It doesn't have the muscle weakness that Baclofen had. I just thought I would let you know so you could check it out.

I haven't yet found anything about lacosamide in the treatment of muscle spasms. Like other antiepileptic drugs, it does have some possible side effects but if it's working well for you, why not use it?
I did find a Cochrane review abstract about lacosamide for treating neuropathic pain. And prescribing drugs for so-called "off-label use" seems to be a common enough practice.
