Decoding Hospital Diets for Patients with Neurological Diseases

This paragraph is noteworthy:

Quote
“The family should be as engaged as possible early on,” says Hooke. “Watch how to thicken liquids. Note the size of the cut-up foods on the hospital tray. Ask about adaptive utensils. At home, eat with your loved one so they don’t feel isolated,” Hooke [Jessica Hooke, speech-language pathologist at Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute] adds.

Articles where it is assumed that a patient has a family who are willing and able to care for them, or at least about them, are very common, unfortunately. I have known all too many people with neurological disorders (as well as other disabling conditions) who have absolutely nobody in their corner.

It would be helpful if researchers and the authors of health-related articles would take these people's needs into account more often.
