MISCELLANEOUS / Cooking quiz

A Facebook friend posted this, and I'm copying it here, with my replies, mainly just to show myself and the world, if anyone else in the world is curious, that I did all of these. It's boastful but with MS sometimes a person just has to look back on past achievements and pat him/herself on the back.

Feel free to copy and put in your own replies.

MISCELLANEOUS / (Consumer Reports) 25 products that promote health and wellness

From Consumer Reports (February 3, 2026):

25 Products That Promote Health and Wellness

EHRs (electronic health records) have real advantages. The patient has access to lab results, often before the doctor has time to review them, but seeing many "abnormal" flags can be disconcerting, to put it mildly, for most patients, who don't realize that there are "abnormal" results that can safely be ignored.
From MedPage Today (February 1, 2026):

Let's Rethink How EHR's Flag "Abnormal" Lab Results.

ANNOUNCEMENTS / About ads
« Last post by agate on February 10, 2026, 09:02:55 pm »
For quite a while I paid regularly for MS Speaks to have an adfree status, but as time went on, I became aware that the supposedly month-long adfree status expired after about a week each month because the entire supply of allocated page views was already used up. Since then I haven't continued that subscription.

Lately there have been very intrusive, prominent ads appearing near the top of the screen, as well as some fairly prominent ones near the bottom. The top ads often are made to look as if they are important messages about a user's activity on this board.

They are not. They are ads.

Some administrators of Createaforum boards, of which MS Speaks is one, have been complaining about this, and I've been among them.  I can't guarantee that the situation will improve but would like to let users here know that an attempt is being made.

In the meantime, I apologize for the ads.

From Multiple Sclerosis Journal (February 2, 2026)--"Baricitinib triggering a  central nervous system inflammatory-demyelinating disease: A case report":

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/20552173251409943#tab-contributors

The article includes this statement:

Quote
All these findings suggest the possibility of a pre-existing silent demyelinating condition that was unmasked during baricitinib therapy

The patient developed MS-like symptoms and signs, probably as a result of taking baricitinib. The authors are suggesting a "silent demyelinating condition" that manifested itself as a result of the baricitinib. Could MS remain a "silent demyelanting condition" in other situations as well--maybe showing up only as a result of some event, such as an infection or a certain drug or maybe even extreme stress?

I am happy to see that researchers are concerning themselves with falls even though this abstract doesn't offer any helpful suggestions for preventing or dealing with falls.

The annual ACTRIMS conference will be in San Diego February 5-7. There is an Abstract Catalog that has been circulated in advance, though the actual abstracts may be available only after the conference or may be somewhat different from the content in the catalog.

ACTRIMS = Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis.. The US and Canada are the participants.
